Laser Hair Removal

In Laser Hair Removal a handheld laser device sends waves of photons into the skin that seek out and eradicate unwanted hair by heating the bulb within the follicle to destruction; The destructed hairs purge themselves from the skin over the following week. The hair that survived will begin to grow back in about a month and can then be retreated. Each Laser Hair Removal Session lessens the total amount of hairs remaining; Typically after about 6 sessions you'll see a significant reduction in overall growth

 

To better understand Laser Hair Removal one needs to know more about hair, and how it grows. Hair follicles have 3 growth stages, each has its own unique life span differing from neighboring follicles; If not we'd all suffer from Alopecia, a condition that causes sudden baldness. Lasers can only destroy a hair if and when it's in the third growth stage, we can't pinpoint when that is so consistent treatments are needed every 4 to 6 weeks. Keep in mind hormones can trigger new growth over time which may requiring more Laser Hair Removal treatments

 

Lasers are chromophore ( pigment ) seeking devices therefore they aren't ideal for melanated skin tones. Laser Hair Removal devices work best on fair skin with thick, dark hair;  Lighter or warmer blonde and vellus ( thin ) hairs are often not treatable with Lasers; Individuals with lighter or thinner hair should consider electrolysis

If you're coming in for Laser Hair Removal please shave the area being treated just prior to arrival otherwise hair will melt on the surface of the skin and result in burns; If the hair isn't freshly shaved you may be asked to reschedule. Expect shaving-like irritation as well sensitivity to heat and ultraviolet light until these visual signs of treatment have left the skin. During this time avoid exposure to the sun, pools & hot tubs as these activities can result in rashes and infections
